Bangkok is preparing for one of its most visually stunning and culturally significant events: the Royal Barge Procession 2026. This centuries-old tradition, which showcases the exquisite craftsmanship and naval heritage of Thailand, will grace the Chao Phraya River later this year. A Celebration of Royal Heritage

The 2026 procession is organized to mark a momentous occasion—the 48th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana. The event will culminate on November 6, 2026, with the Royal Kathin Ceremony. During this sacred ritual, His Majesty the King will travel via the river to present robes to the Buddhist monks at Wat Arun Ratchawararam, also known as the Temple of Dawn. This tradition underscores the deep connection between the Thai monarchy, Buddhism, and the kingdom's historical waterways.

The scale of the event is truly immense. A total of 52 royal barges will participate, manned by approximately 2,200 personnel from the Royal Thai Navy. The fleet will be organized into five columns and three lines, stretching nearly 1.3 kilometers in length and 90 meters in width. Rehearsal Schedule and Viewing Opportunities

For those visiting Bangkok before the main event in November, the Royal Thai Navy has scheduled 12 rehearsals, offering plenty of opportunities to see the barges in action. These rehearsals are a great way to capture photographs in a slightly more relaxed atmosphere compared to the official ceremony day.

• Minor Rehearsals: These will take place on August 17, 20, and 27; September 3, 8, 17, and 23; and October 2, 8, and 15.
• Full-Dress Rehearsals: For a near-identical experience to the final ceremony, visitors can watch the full-dress rehearsals on October 21 and 28.

Most rehearsals are expected to begin around 2:30 pm. Public viewing areas will be available along both banks of the Chao Phraya River, specifically between the Krung Thon Bridge and Wat Arun.
