New Vietnamese Carrier Sun PhuQuoc Airways Set to Link Australia in 2027
International travel between Australia and Vietnam is poised for a significant boost as Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA), the Hanoi-based full-service carrier, announces its ambitious expansion plans for early 2027. Having launched its operations in August 2025, the airline is rapidly scaling up its fleet and network to connect Southeast Asia with major global destinations. Australian travelers can look forward to new flight options starting as early as the first or second quarter of 2027, marking a new chapter in transcontinental connectivity.
Strategic Fleet Expansion in 2026
The roadmap for this expansion is underpinned by a substantial investment in wide-body aircraft. Sun PhuQuoc Airways has confirmed an order for eight Airbus A330s, which will serve as the backbone for its long-haul operations. The delivery schedule is set to begin shortly: the first two A330s are expected to arrive in Vietnam in September 2026, followed by a third in October and a fourth in December. This strategic rollout ensures the airline is fully equipped to handle the increased demand for the Australian market by the following year.
Enhanced Onboard Experience
As a full-service carrier, Sun PhuQuoc Airways aims to redefine the passenger experience on these long-haul routes. The upcoming Airbus A330 fleet will feature a sophisticated three-cabin configuration designed to cater to various traveler needs:
- Business Class: Featuring full-flat seats for maximum comfort on overnight journeys.
- Premium Economy: Offering extra legroom and enhanced services for those seeking a middle-ground luxury.
- Economy Class: Providing modern seating and high-quality service.
Every seat across all cabins will be equipped with personal entertainment screens. Passengers can expect a diverse selection of international and Vietnamese cinema, alongside family-friendly content, all accessible via a high-speed wireless system.
Phu Quoc as a Global Hub
The airline’s name reflects its primary mission: positioning the tropical island of Phu Quoc as a premier destination and a strategic transit hub. By linking Oceania, Asia, and Europe, the carrier intends to offer an attractive alternative to traditional stopover points. General Director Mr. Nguyen Manh Quan emphasized that the investment in the A330 fleet is a deliberate step toward achieving international five-star standards, ensuring that every journey is as meticulously crafted as the destinations themselves.
Looking Toward the Horizon
While Australia and Japan are the immediate priorities for 2027, the airline is already looking further afield. Discussions are underway for potential routes to Europe, specifically targeting the Czech Republic and Poland. To support this long-term vision, SPA has already planned for the next decade, with expectations to receive forty Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners starting in 2031. These ultra-modern aircraft will provide even greater capacity and efficiency for intercontinental services, solidifying Vietnam's position as a major player in global aviation.
