Magical 25th Anniversary: Global Celebrations for Back to Hogwarts 2026

Every year on September 1st, a global community of fans gathers to celebrate one of the most cherished traditions in literature and film: the day students return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In 2026, this annual event carries even more weight as it marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on the big screen. To celebrate a quarter-century of cinematic magic, theme parks and studio tours across the globe are preparing a series of spectacular events, new shows, and exclusive collectibles.

Important Travel Advice for London

Before planning your itinerary, it is crucial to note a significant change for 2026. For many years, fans naturally congregated at King’s Cross Station in London for an informal countdown. However, for 2026, officials have confirmed there will be no official events, announcements, or countdowns at the station on September 1st. Travelers are strongly advised not to visit King’s Cross for this purpose and instead head to the dedicated attractions where the real magic is happening.

Enchantment at Universal Studios Parks

Universal Studios locations are leading the celebrations with extensive programming starting as early as August. At Universal Orlando Resort, from August 1 to September 1, fans can enjoy the return of the fan-favorite Hogwarts Always castle projection show in Hogsmeade. To mark the 25th anniversary, guests can also purchase a limited-edition souvenir Butterbeer mug and explore a special range of themed food and beverages.

On the West Coast, Universal Studios Hollywood is introducing its own set of magical experiences. Visitors will have the rare chance to encounter an animatronic Monster Book of Monsters and participate in house-themed giveaways. Both American resorts will also debut the park-exclusive Build-A-Bag collection by Lug, allowing fans to customize their wizarding gear for the ultimate personalized look.

Global Festivities in Asia

The celebrations extend far into Asia, where the wizarding world continues to grow. Universal Beijing Resort is marking the Back to Hogwarts season with the grand debut of its own Hogwarts Always projection show. The resort will also host a dedicated Gathering Night on August 28th, offering immersive photo opportunities and exclusive merchandise for early celebrants.

In Japan, Universal Studios is offering a truly elite experience. On September 1st, select guests will be granted exclusive after-hours access to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Additionally, the park is bringing back the popular Hogwarts Castle Walk, giving fans an intimate look at the corridors and mysteries of the famous school, complemented by digital collectibles and unique giveaways.

Warner Bros. Studio Tours: The Making of Harry Potter

For those seeking a deep dive into the production of the films, the Studio Tours are offering unique 25th-anniversary experiences. Warner Bros. Studio Tour London has introduced a new tradition for 2026: a special 11:00 AM announcement broadcast throughout the tour, followed by updates every 30 minutes at Platform 9¾. Guests can witness Hagrid animatronic demonstrations and receive complimentary Hogwarts Train Tickets as part of their summer activity passports.

Meanwhile, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Tokyo is mirroring the excitement with its own countdown events and specialized photo opportunities. Whether you are a lifelong fan who remembers the first film's premiere or a new student of the magical arts, 2026 offers an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate the legacy of the boy who lived.
