IndiGo Announces Daily Direct Flights Between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam

Starting November 20, 2026, the aviation landscape between India and East Africa is set for a significant transformation. IndiGo, one of Asia’s fastest-growing carriers, has officially announced the introduction of daily direct flights connecting the bustling financial capital of India, Mumbai, with the vibrant coastal city of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. This move marks a pivotal moment in international travel, as IndiGo becomes the first and only Indian airline to offer a non-stop link between these two major hubs.

Strategic Flight Schedule and Connectivity

The new service is designed to cater to the growing demand for seamless travel between the Indian subcontinent and the African continent. Flight 6E 1851 is scheduled to depart from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai at 02:20 AM, reaching Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam at 06:05 AM. The return leg, flight 6E 1852, will take off from Dar es Salaam at 07:05 AM and is expected to touch down in Mumbai at 15:55 PM. All listed times are local, providing travelers with convenient early-morning arrivals that allow for a full day of business or leisure activities upon arrival.

Strengthening India-Tanzania Relations

The launch of this route is more than just an expansion of a flight map; it is a strategic bridge aimed at fostering deeper economic and cultural ties. Tanzania has long been a key partner for India in sectors ranging from agriculture and manufacturing to healthcare and education. By providing direct daily access, the airline aims to facilitate smoother mobility for investors, traders, and students. Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer at IndiGo, emphasized that this new connection underscores the airline's commitment to bridging India with rapidly emerging global markets. He noted that Dar es Salaam serves as a crucial gateway to the wider East African region, offering immense potential for bilateral growth.

  • Direct daily flights ensuring maximum flexibility for business travelers.
  • Improved access for Indian tourists to explore Tanzania’s world-famous wildlife and beaches.
  • Enhanced logistical efficiency for trade and investment between the two nations.
  • Strengthened cultural and educational exchange programs.

A Gateway to Adventure and Opportunity

For international tourists, the Mumbai-Dar es Salaam route opens up a world of possibilities. Dar es Salaam is the largest city and economic center of Tanzania, known for its unique mix of African, Arabic, and Indian influences. From here, travelers can easily reach the legendary islands of Zanzibar or embark on world-class safaris in the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. Conversely, for Tanzanian travelers, Mumbai serves as the ultimate gateway to India, offering premium medical facilities, diverse shopping experiences, and a rich historical heritage that spans centuries.

Expanding the African Footprint

IndiGo’s foray into Tanzania is part of a broader strategy to solidify its presence across the African continent. The airline already maintains successful operations to other key destinations including Nairobi in Kenya, as well as the tropical island nations of Mauritius and the Seychelles. This latest addition reinforces the airline's mission to provide affordable, on-time, and hassle-free travel experiences to an ever-growing list of international destinations. As late 2026 approaches, the tourism industry expects a surge in interest for East African exploration, supported by these enhanced connectivity options which make the region more accessible than ever before.
